Everyone knew the Michigan-bound Speierman was going to have trouble besting her 2007 season when she set a single-season state record for strikeouts (425) and pitched a perfect game in Hammond’s state title win. In 2008, Speierman still had one of the finest seasons in the state, finishing 18-4 with a 0.48 ERA and 354 Ks in 159 innings while batting .418.
